From the moment of our founding in 1882, charity has been the first principle of the Knights of Columbus. We are men of faith and men of action.<\/p>\n

In 2015, the Knights of Columbus set a new all-time record for the 17th consecutive year. Our charitable donations increased from 2014 by more than $1.5 million to a new total of $175,079,192. In addition, we achieved our highest level of charitable service in 2015, volunteering more than 73.5 million hours of service. The number of service hours contributed by Knights rose in 2015 by more than a million over the previous year\u2019s total.<\/p>\n

Our charitable activities encompass an almost infinite variety of local, national and international projects. From international charitable partnerships with\u00a0Special Olympics, the\u00a0Global Wheelchair Mission\u00a0and\u00a0Habitat for Humanity\u00a0to our own\u00a0Food for Families\u00a0and\u00a0Coats for Kids\u00a0projects and other local charities, the opportunity to work together with fellow Knights and their families is virtually endless.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are answering Pope Francis\u2019 call to go to the peripheries,\u201d Supreme Knight Carl Anderson said. \u201cWe can reach half way around the globe to help those in need and we can reach to our neighbor next door. And we do that every day. That makes us witnesses to the faith.\u201d<\/p>\n

All the good works we do are informed by our four core principles:<\/p>\n

Charity<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Our Catholic faith teaches us to \u201cLove thy neighbor as thyself.\u201d Members of the Knights of Columbus show love for their neighbors by conducting food drives and donating the food to local soup kitchens and food pantries, by volunteering at Special Olympics, and by supporting, both spiritually and materially, mothers who choose life for their babies. Knights recognize that our mission, and our faith in God, compels us to action. There is no better way to experience love and compassion than by helping those in need, a call we answer every day.<\/p>\n

Unity<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 None of us is as good as all of us. Members of the Knights of Columbus all know that \u2013 together \u2013 we can accomplish far more than any of us could individually. So we stick together\u2026we support one another. That doesn\u2019t mean that we always agree or that there is never a difference of opinion. It does mean that \u2013 as a Knight of Columbus \u2013 you can count on the support and encouragement of your brother Knights as you work to make life better in your parish and community.<\/p>\n

Fraternity<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 The Venerable Michael J. McGivney founded the Knights of Columbus, in large part, to provide assistance to the widows and children left behind when the family breadwinner died \u2013 often prematurely. The Order\u2019s top-rated insurance program continues to do this today, as do individual Knights, who last year gave more than 10 million hours of their time to assist sick and\/or disabled members and their families. In the Knights of Columbus, we watch out for and take care of one another.<\/p>\n

Patriotism<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Members of the Knights of Columbus, be they Americans, Canadians, Mexicans, Cubans, Filipinos, Poles, or Dominicans, are patriotic citizens. We are proud of our devotion to God and country, and believe in standing up for both. Whether it\u2019s in public or private, the Knights remind the world that Catholics support their nations and are amongst the greatest citizens.<\/p>\n<\/header>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
